Worried, like most of Swindon's residents, about what local Tories have in store for next year's budget, I sat in on a Swindon Council cabinet meeting last Wednesday.
We all know that it's the panto season, but I do think that local Tories might credit the people of Swindon with a little more intelligence.
Excuse after excuse about having to make hard choices, and that it was all the fault of the Government failing to give Swindon enough money would have brought tears to my eyes had I not remembered that it was the 20 years of Tory government that started Swindon's cash strapped problems. Over the last four years things may not have been perfect, but the funding is getting better.
And wasn't it the Tories who supported the Lib Dem's budget last year that cut three per cent from the increased budget proposed by Labour.
The money needed now was also needed then, so don't think the people of Swindon will forget those party political games just because you NOW shed some crocodile tears. Andy Harrison
