THE brother of a man killed in a shooting in Chippenham has been released from hospital.

But Kashmira Singh, 42, of The Causeway, Chippenham, is still not well enough to be questioned by detectives.

Police investigating the death of Charlie Singh and the serious gun shot wounds inflicted on Kashmira's wife Diola are expected to wait until after Christmas to speak to Kashmira Singh.

Detective Chief Superintendant Gary Chatfield confirmed yesterday that Mr Singh was now back home recuperating from his injuries.

He said police were keeping an open mind on the inquiry. Last week they announced that Mr Singh was no longer under arrest on suspicion of murder.

He had originally been arrested by police at his bedside in Bristol Royal Infirmary, where he was being treated for gunshot wounds to the chest .

Family friend Alan Aldridge of Devizes auctioneer Henry Aldridge and Son, said everyone was still very traumatised by what had happened.

"Everyone has been hit very hard by what happened. It is very upsetting," said Mr Aldridge, who has been in regular touch with the family and hopes to visit again this weekend.

"They are devastated. Charlie's mum isn't all that well everyone is in a terrible state and is so torn apart," he said.

The Singh family is still too upset to comment.

Detective Inspector Graham Hatswell, who is working on the case, said: "Kashmira Singh has been released from hospital but is unfit to be interviewed.

"He will be interviewed some time in the New Year."

Diola Singh was originally treated at Bath RUH but has now been transferred to Bristol Royal Infirmary for skin grafts.

The shooting happened during the early hours of December 3.
