THE newly completed cycle way in London Road, Devizes is receiving a mixed reaction.
Some cyclists believe the path that was built at a huge cost to make their lives safer is failing.
In the past couple of weeks several cyclists have reported near misses or being clipped by traffic when large lorries find it difficult to pass on the narrowed stretch of the road.
Other members of Devizes Town Council, including cyclist Ray Taylor, agree with Wiltshire County Council's verdict that the road is an improvement.
But even he agrees the cycle route is not well signed and it is difficult for cyclists, especially those not familiar with the road, to know when they are meant to be on the road or the pavement. The county council faces making huge cuts from its highways budget maybe the savings should have started here.
