THREE cars were left with wing mirrors hanging off following a spate of vandal attacks overnight on Friday December 14 and Saturday December 15.

Police say they suspect the attacks were carried out by revellers on their way home from the pub, or by under-age drinkers.

PC Ian Brown, of Malmesbury police, said officers are waiting to speak to a person who was stopped by a member of the public, near to where the vandalism took place.

In Gloucester Road, the nearside wing mirror of a blue Vauxhall Cavalier was left hanging off, causing £100 of damage.

In The Horsefair the offside door mirror of a blue Renault Clio was wrenched off, causing £120 of damage.

In West Street a red Vauxhall Vectra had the mirror casing of its nearside door mirror broken, leaving the owner to pick up a £100 repair bill.

Each of the streets are close to each other and police said they suspect it was drinkers on their way home, or under-age drinkers.

"We do have a suspect, who was detained by a member of the public nearby, and we are hoping to speak to him soon," said PC Ian Brown.

"We suspect it may have been a group of youths, who had probably had a drink, and thought they would have fun knocking wing mirrors off."

"The route would have taken the person back from the centre of town, through Gloucester Road, on to West Street and the Horsefair."
