STUDENTS from Year 11 and the Sixth Form at Wootton Bassett School have achieved certificates and charity sponsorshipin the annual national Maths Challenge.

The event, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust, is intended to foster enthusiasm for maths. Twenty five multiple choice questions had to be completed in 90 minutes.

Sponsorship raised £86 towards the Lower Sixth Form's new Charity Challenge fund. Students will appoint a committee early next term to plan fundraising and choose their charity for 2002.

"They have done very well; I congratulate them all," said maths teacher Jacqui Crews.

In Year 11, silver awards were gained by David McNally, Robert Moore, Helen Whitfield and Andrew Mintey.

Bronze certificates were awarded to Ben Jarrett, Natalie Pryor, Nicola Catton and Simon Ravenscroft.

Lower Sixth students who gained Bronze awards are Kate Senior, Caroline Robbshaw, Kim Tysom and Frances Holmes.

In the Upper Sixth, the silver award was achieved by James Suter, Lesley Allison, Anya Vickers and David Riley.

Bronze awards went to Rachel Jefferies and Nicky Lam.
