MAUD Heath Sports, who won the Rainbow Launderette sponsored WG Parr Trophy two seasons ago, progressed to the final eight courtesy of a stunning first half goal from Dave Beal which was enough to see them to a 1-0 win over fellow First Division side, the George Lacock.
The victory could have been a lot greater but for the exploits of Lacock goalkeeper Charlie Doel, who was in great form throughout the game.
Trowbridge Town Colts played the whole of their game against Colerne A with only 10 players and suffered an 8-0 mauling. Ben Moore (3), Tony Trottman (2), Jason Smith, Mark Colley and Darren Moore (penalty) eased last season's beaten finalists into the next round.
Westbridge United succumbed to the third defeat on the trot in what has now become known as Black December.
United were dumped out of the competition 6-3 by fellow Second Division side West End Wanderers. Wanderers started the brighter side and found themselves three goals up thanks to goals from Keith Taylor (2) and Wayne Bailey.
United hit back and reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time thanks to Paul Daly.
After the break United fell further behind when Bailey hit his second of the game to make it 4-1. Chris Stiles dragged United back in the game when he powered home a free kick to make it 4-2. Wanderers won a penalty, but Tom Staddon's spot kick was well saved by Alex Knight. The ball broke up field where Chris Stiles fired home his second of the game to make it 4-3.
Just as it looked that an escape act was on the cards the Wanderers made their striking superiority tell and the talented Nathan Mantle saw United off with a brace to complete the 6-3 scoreline.
After 120 minutes of goal-less football, the boring uneventful game between First Division rivals Hullavington Village and Gladstone Liberal Club was finally settled by penalties, with Hullavington going through 2-0, the winning spot kicks coming from Craig Samuals and Andy Martin.
Second Division Terry's progressed into the next round with a comfortable 5-1 win over AFC Unicorn.
Fourth Division Colerne B suffered a 6-1 defeat against Second Division opponents North Bradley.
Bradley won with goals from Danny Prince (2), Pete Stephenson (2), Chris Gale and Daniel Foster. Ross Willcox replied.
Third Division Biddestone Social Club and Semington Rovers battled out a cup thriller at Cuttle Lane. Stuart Barber gave Semington a first half lead which looked to be enough to see Rovers into the next round before Biddestone's Neil Harlock capped an outstanding personal display when he hit a 75th minute equaliser to take the game into extra-time. Kelvin Lockwood struck twice for Rovers before Paul Poiner added a second late on for Biddestone who finally went out of the competition losing 3-2.
Premier Division
IN the Vanitec Computers sponsored league programme, Corsham FC remain top of the Premier Division after they defeated Melksham Motor Spares 3-1.
The understrength Melksham side started the game with only nine players and fell behind to a Gordon Willshire strike. Kelvin Green levelled before Jason King and Malcolm King sealed Corsham's win. Corsham finished the game with 10 players after having Kevin Streeter dismissed.
Pilot FC remain second and look to be the team to beat following their convincing 5-1 win over Corsham Centre United, who they outplayed in every department. Gordon Smith (2), Darren Morris (2) and Mark James (penalty) did the damage. Dave Kilmurray replied for the Centre.
Bradford News' goalkeeper Phil Frankham was in excellent form but it was not enough to save his side from going down 4-0 against local rivals Dog and Fox Ashley. Andy Brooks gave the Fox the lead after two minutes and this was doubled on five minutes when Steve Roddy scored from the penalty spot, Brooks added his second game and the Fox's third in the second period before Russell Whatley's cross was put through his own net by a News' defender.
Westbury Rangers A continue to languish at the wrong end of the table after they fell to defeat number nine of the season, losing 2-1 a home to Malmesbury Town. John Curnock put Malmesbury ahead before Steve Bruce equalised. Dave Pope hit Malmesbury's winners when he scored his first goal of the season. The match was well refereed by Malmesbury manager Kevin Bishop, who received praise from Westbury's management team.
Packhorse moved up into the top half of the table after they defeated Winsley 4-1. Rich Chaffey gave Packhorse a half-time advantage before their goalkeeper Ben Munns played a major part in helping his team to their win. A superb double save at the start of the second period kept his side in the match before John Ledgister (2) and Steve Richardson struck to complete the Horse's quartet. Lee Bruton netted Winsley's consolation.
Division One
SECOND place All Cannings saw their chance of claiming top spot disappear when third placed opponents Trowbridge Harriers were unable to raise a side for their table topping clash.
Missed chances proved costly for Atworth United as they fell to a 6-0 defeat against West Lavington. United could have and should have been four up before Lavington broke the deadlock to lead 1-0 at the break. Jason Hillier hit Lavington's first half effort before United's dam finally burst and a late rush of goals from Simon Drewitt (2), Matt Nash, Darren Thorpe and Jason Hillier's second of the game completed Lavington's half dozen.
North Star A collected two valuable points with a 4-1 win over bottom of the table Bromham. A hat-trick from Ronnie Kallmeier and a solitary strike from Victor Long moved them three points clear of the drop zone. Richard Campion replied.
Division Two
OLD Lane United returned to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Sutton Benger.
Mark McIntyre set United on the way with a goal after five minutes and Marcus Young added another from an acute angle before Colin Elliott's towering header made it 3-0. and Paul Maddox completed the scoring.
This was United's first clean sheet of the season and it was achieved without their regular goalkeeper as Gerrard Fawcitt had to take over between the sticks.
Wingfield recorded back-to-back victories against a struggling Potley United side, who started the game with 10 players and finished it with eight following injuries to James Hearsey and Odran Healy. Mark Barnett scored both of Wingfield's goals in their 2-1 win. Liam Healy hit United's consolation.
Division Three
CHIPPENHAM Black Horse increased their lead at the top to four points with a crushing 7-0 win over the Plough.
Darren Whiston led the scoring with 3, Steve Mizen (2), Nathan King and Gavin Moulton completed the romp.
A hat trick from Farmhouse's Lee Hayward helped sink Corsham Park Rangers who wilted under a second half onslaught after taking a fifth minute lead through Nick Perrett. Farmhouse eventually ran out 4-2 winners with Shaun Daniels adding their fourth goal and Paul Smith netting Rangers' second.
Sir Audley Arms produced an escape act that Houdini would have been proud off. Trailing 2-0 to North Star B with only eight minutes remaining, the Arms hit back to win 3-2. Chris Sampson and Nick Cawley scored for the Star before Steve Mallard struck from 20 yards to make it 2-1. Aidie White levelled and Wayne Burry lobbed home the winner from 18 yards in the final minutes.
Division Four
WITH Somerford's game against Roadrunners postponed, Holt FC returned to the top of the pile.
Goals from Tim Edgar (2), Nick Corbett (2), Mark Slade and Dan Burton-Morgan helped them to a 6-2 win over Old Road Tavern, whose two goals came from Jerry Clarke, one of which put Tavern 1-0 in front.
White Horse FC defeated local rivals Westbury Rangers B 2-1. Paul Phelps gave the Horse the lead just before the half-time whistle. Ben Shave made it 1-1 when he scored in the 55th minute, but Mark Pugh hit the Horse's winner in the 90th minute.
Classic FC and King Alfred were involved in an eventful 11-goal thriller. King Alfred had Lee Tatum dismissed after 20 minutes before going on to win 6-5. Shane Rendall hit all five goals for Classic, but to no avail as Neil Clarke's hat-trick and a double from Gary Banks tied the scores before Jason Cole hit Alfred's winning goal.
KSM could only field 10 players against Bradstone Rovers and despite drawing 1-1 at half-time they finally surrendered to a 5-1 defeat. Stuart Kofie scored for KSM and Jamie Dance, Alan Eades (3) and an own goal made up Bradstone's tally.
Steve Munday gave Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club a first half lead against Blue Circle Saints which they held until the later stages when goals from Dean Wheeler and Steve Martin earned the Saints a 2-1 win and two valuable points in their quest to move out of the division.
