LES PHILLIPS CUP: MELKSHAM Town bounced back from last week's FA Vase exit with a 7-0 hammering of First Division strugglers Wellington in the second round of the Les Phillips Cup.
After a sluggish start, Dean Ranger opened the floodgates with the home side's first goal of the afternoon on 28 minutes. Matty Messenger nodded the second before the interval and brother Justin fired home number three on 54 minutes.
Matty Messenger netted his second on the hour and Melksham could even afford the luxury of a missed Jeremy Christopher penalty before Matty Bown bagged two in a minute to stretch the lead to six.
Bown completed his hat-trick late on after Wellington themselves had missed a penalty.
First Division whipping boys Warminster Town bowed out of the competition after going down 5-0 at Premier Division Elmore.
Strikes from Nick Woon, Chris Woon, Mark Robinson, Damon Palfrey and an own goal saw the hosts register a comfortable victory against the Screwfix Direct League's bottom club.
The draw for round two sees First Division Corsham Town travel to Premier Division high-flyers Backwell United, while Melksham and Devizes Town have also been handed tricky ties.
Melksham have been drawn at home to Dawlish Town and Devizes face unbeaten Bideford at Nursteed Road in the last 16.
Ties must be played on or before February 2 2002.
