THE ancient custom of dressing a Jesse tree has been revived at St Mary's Church at Great Bedwyn by the Rector, the Rev Rodney Harrison, with the help of children from the village.
The Jesse tree represents the family tree of Jesus and can sometimes be seen represented in old stained glass church windows.
Each week through advent at the family communion services, another symbol is hung from the branch of the tree. The symbols depict the Bible story with an apple representing Adam, stone tablets as a reminder of Moses and a harp to represent King David.
Jenny Harrison has led the project encouraging children to take part in this fun way of learning about Christ. The tree will feature in the Christingle service on Christmas Eve, at 4pm.
