WOOTTON Bassett conceded a last-minute try to lose out 15-8 to Witney after seeming set to hold on for a draw.
In what was always an even match Bassett started the brighter and led early on through a penalty from veteran Kiwi Steve Cunningham.
However Witney soon struck back with a penalty of their own before Bassett restored their lead with a well-worked try from outside-half Sean Wiltshire to go in with an 8-3 interval lead.
Witney came out strongly and levelled the scores with a try following some good forward work.
The second half continued to be a close affair with both sides spurning good chances, but a last-minute break cost Bassett dear.
