I WAS not surprised to see the letter from Peter Collins (Wiltshire Times, December 7) concerning safety in the Tesco car park.
Some time ago there was correspondence concerning motorists who either ignored or couldn't see signs for disabled parking bays. It seems they have now turned their attention to traffic flows in car parks.
This not only happens at Tesco but also in The Shires and even Castle Place multi-storey where I have seen cars going the wrong way on the slopes all very dangerous. I have recently noticed an increase in this behaviour and wonder whether motorists were practising for last-minute Christmas shopping when they will be hurtling around car parks like demented dervishes trying to find a parking space.
I understand that because the car parks are privately owned, the police are unable to take action but maybe the time has come for Wiltshire Constabulary to set up random eye-sight tests as their colleagues in Gloucestershire have done. The indications are the failure rate will be quite high.
