I HAVE heard of some hair-brained schemes in my time but Wiltshire County Council's plans to switch off lighting in villages and estates really must take the biscuit.
I have never seen such an open invitation to thugs, thieves and sex offenders in all my life.
The Wiltshire Times reported in the same paper that car parks in our area are prime targets for crime, Why? Because they are poorly supervised and lighting is minimal.
Even more concerning, on the news the same day we are told there had been abduction attempts on the outskirts of Hilperton. Would not this sort of crime only be encouraged if we were to be walking around in total darkness?
The town park is a no-go area after dark. Does Richard Lander want to turn our villages and estates into unsafe territory also? Think again Mr Lander or on your head be the consequences.
MRS LYN DREWETT,
Hill Street,
Hilperton.
