HOW lovely to see a photograph of The Parade with its trees which looked so attractive, but I cannot remember the variety of them. I am 86, and also remember the trees in the grounds adjoining Bellefield House and the deer which lived there.
Listening to the news these days I often get the impression that all hospitals belong to the government, which they do not. Cottage hospitals were built by the local people. Benefactors gave land and buildings and the local people contributed financially and in practical ways.
When in Trowbridge Hospital a few years ago, I read a booklet about the history of the hospital. What was omitted was that in the 20s and 30s there were annual Egg Weeks for the hospital.
My mother was one of the collectors and as a girl I enjoyed accompanying her. People who had no eggs gave her money to buy eggs, and over several years there were thousands. She was also a member of the Linen League to which people gave towels, pillowcases or sheets.
I taught Ken Rogers and his brother, and he is a friend whom I support to keep the Record Office in Trowbridge. Would you kindly sign the petition for me please?
