Mitsubishi's Shogun Sport with a completely new uprated 2.5 Diesel and slightly modified 3.0 litre V6 petrol engines have gone on sale in the UK with no increase in their current prices.
This year, Mitsubishi's Shogun Sport sales have increased by 46.5 per cent compared to 2000.
Its new uprated diesel engine is the same as in the new L200 Double Cab.
Mitsubishi's offering for the SUV-II sector has grown in popularity this year and it currently has a 15.6 per cent sector share for the year, while September figures show that it has a massive 20.24 per cent sector share, second only to the Nissan Terrano II.
The revised four-cylinder in-line 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engine delivers exceptional low-end torque equating to 177 lb ft at just 2,000 rpm thanks to its long-stroke design and twin-scroll turbocharger with intercooler.
Mitsubishi's Silent Shaft technology ensures smooth engine performance rivalling that of a petrol engine.
A variable turbocharger also boosts power by 16 per cent, which has resulted in an improved power output of 114 bhp at 4,000 rpm (previously 98 bhp at 4,000rpm).
The 2.5 engine produces excellent fuel economy to give an Extra Urban fuel consumption figure of 31.4 mpg (Equippe model) an increase of more than five per cent.
Mitsubishi's 3.0 V6 engine delivers 168 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 188 lb ft of torque at 4,500 rpm, and an extra urban fuel consumption figure of 28.5mpg (Equippe manual model).
Although this revised engine produces slightly less bhp in order to meet Euro regulations, there is no real notable difference in vehicle performance when you think it should.
Other specification changes include electrically folding door mirrors, improved security by means of additional door lock shielding, a more luxurious seat trim and an ABS braking system on Equippe and Elegance models.
The Shogun Sport is fitted with a robust 4WD system.
This enables the driver to maintain maximum all-terrain performance or to save fuel and tyre wear, when driven in 2WD on normal roads.
The Shogun Sport is available in three trim levels, Classic, Equippe or Elegance, with prices starting at £19,000 for the 2.5 TD Classic.
This ranges to £24,495 for the 3.0 litre V6 Elegance petrol model with automatic transmission.
