SUPERMARKET Tesco has had an attack of Christmas generosity and started giving away stock at its branch in Ocotal Way, Swindon.
With just three days left until Santa makes his rounds Tesco has decided to get in on the act and give away 600 Christmas trees. The trees, which measure up to seven feet tall, would normally sell for about £20.
But with shopping days running out fast Tesco manager John Turner decided to give the trees away rather than have to throw many of them in the bin.
He said: "We've got surplus stock so we decided to give them away to the local community. We are giving them away on a first come first served basis while stocks last, but we'll give priority to any charities."
Mr Turner said it is the first time he has decided to drop prices to zero but said he hasn't ruled out future freebies.
He said it is easier to give away some items than others. Foodstuffs, for example, are governed by strict regulations.
