THE brother of a man killed in a shooting in Chippenham has been released from hospital.

But Kashmira Singh, 42, of The Causeway, Chippenham, is still not well enough to be questioned by detectives.

Police investigating the death of Charlie Singh and the serious gun shot wounds inflicted on Kashmira's wife Diola are expected to wait until after Christmas to speak to Kashmira Singh.

Det Ch Supt Gary Chatfield confirmed yesterday that Mr Singh was now at home recuperating.

He said police were keeping an open mind on the inquiry. Last week they announced that Mr Singh was no longer under arrest on suspicion of murder.

He had originally been arrested by police at his bedside in Bristol Royal Infirmary, where he was being treated for gunshot wounds to the chest.

Friend Alan Aldridge said everyone was still traumatised by what had happened.

"Everyone has been hit hard by what happened. It is very upsetting," said Mr Aldridge, who has been in regular touch with the family.

"They are devastated. Charlie's mum isn't well everyone is in a terrible state and torn apart," he said.

The Singh family is still too upset to comment.

Det Insp Graham Hatswell, who is working on the case, said: "Kashmira Singh has been released from hospital but is unfit to be interviewed. He will be interviewed some time in the New Year."

The shooting happened during the early hours of December 3.
