WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: Despite losing their top marksman Glenn Armstrong, who signed for Screwfix side Devizes Town in midweek, Wroughton still managed to score six goals at Marlborough, the home side replying twice.
The victory kept the Swindon side in touch with leaders Shrewton United who were held to a 2-2 draw by Devizes Town Reserves for whom Armstrong made his debut.
Wroughton, who moved into second place in the table after their success, went ahead after 15 minutes with a goal from Sean Clarke. Marlborough fought back well to equalise with a good lob from Richard Jackson.
Whatever was in their half time cuppa worked wonders for Wroughton who netted three goals in the opening five minutes of the second half, Tom Dingle (2) and Clarke on target. Paul Blagden then netted a fifth and Richard Jackson pulled a goal for Marlborough.
Nick Maggs completed the scoring in the closing minutes to chalk up a sixth for the visitors.
In the local derby game at Purton the home side beat rivals Cricklade Town 2-0. Paul Gillett gave Purton the lead half an hour into the game with a good header and Johnny Coole added a second from the penalty spot after Jimmy Wright had been brought down.
Pewsey Vale Reserves and Aldbourne shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Terry Creedy netting for the home side and Mark Bennett for the visitors.
Premier leaders Shrewton United run of victories came to a halt when they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by visitors Devizes Town Reserves.
The home side started well but fell behind to a soft goal when their keeper misjudged a speculative effort from Gary Campbell. Almost immediately they were on level terms Brian Blake heading an equaliser.
Chris Withers then settled the home side's nerves by adding a second with a good volley but the visitors fought back and just before the break equalised through Simon Hillier.
After the break honours remained fairly even with the Devizes keeper forced to make a couple of good stops. The best chance of the half however fell to Devizes Town's Andy Davis who fluffed his shot in the last couple of minutes.
Second in the table Trowbridge Town missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the leaders when they were surprisingly beaten 2-0 on their own ground by lowly Corsham Town Reserves. Steve Davies gave the visitors an early lead with Tommy Laver making sure with a second half penalty.
Third from bottom Malmesbury Vics Reserves created another shock result when they defeated fourth in the table Biddestone 2-1 on their own ground.
After a goal-less first half Paul Wheeler gave the Vics the lead, Tim Tasker equalising from the penalty spot. Fifteen minutes from time Wayne Kibble scored the winner to give the Vics three very welcome points.
Intermediate Division leaders Blunsdon United had their game postponed due to a frosty pitch leaving the way clear for Stratton Crosslink Reserves and Zarlink to close the gap.
Zarlink gained a 5-0 away success over Calne thanks to goals from Chrisian Bailey (2), Mark Connolly, Michael Corcoran and Michael Colbourne. Stratton Crosslink beat Ashton Keynes 4-1 thanks to two goals from Martin Smith and one each from Martin Langford and Darren Jell.
Biddestone Reserves ran in five goals at Sherston the home side replying twice and Castrol accounted for Wanborough United 3-2, courtesy of goals from Craig Ingram, Nick Kemmett and Andy Liddiard.
There was a shock result in the Junior Division, Down Ampney Reserves beating high flying Swindon Eagles 4-0.
Jamie Walters gave Ampney the lead with a low drive after just a couple of minutes. Honours were then fairly even until an incident packed second half where Eagles' Wayne Petrie and Ampney's Paul Furlong were sent off on the hour. Jamie Walters netted twice to complete his hat-trick and Paul Dolphin powered in a 40 yard free kick to complete the scoring.
The result was music to the ears of Wroughton Reserves who beat Sporting HKQ 7-2, Richard Perrett scoring four, two late goals from Mattie Hibberd and one from Seth Palmer.
They now lead the Junior Division by eight points from the unbeaten Wootton Bassett United who chalked up a 2-0 success at Bromham with Swindon Eagles now in third spot.
Blunsdon United Reserves beat Wanborough United 3-1, with goals from Ian Bell, Ray Francis and Paul Brannigan and Marlborough Town Reserves kept their good run going with a 3-2 away win over Wootton Bassett A, Jonathan Maslin (2) and Adi Cripps on target.
Castrol Reserves beat Cricklade Reserves 3-1 Gareth Perry, Pete Money and an own goal doing the damage with Dave Newman netting for Cricklade.
The highest scorers of the day were Minety who beat Aldbourne Reserves 9-1, Graham Read (4), Tony Hammersley (2), Matt Weaven (2) and Simon Axford the scorers.
