HELLENIC LEAGUE: Highworth Town made it eight wins from their last nine matches when they beat Division One side Bisley Sports 4-0 in the second round of the Hellenic Supplementary Cup.
Highworth never looked in any danger of being the victims of a cup upset, scoring two goals in each half.
On a hard but flat pitch Highworth had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead when a home defender handled in the area and Dave Webb made no mistake from the spot.
Shortly after they added a second when Warren Fuller gave the home keeper no chance.
After the break Highworth continued to have the edge and Steve Stuart looked as if he was about to add a third before being brought down in the box. Dave Webb once again obliged from the spot.
The home side fought gallantly but were no match for their Premier Division opponents and the visitors added a fourth when a corner from John Reeves was headed into the net by Gary Hill.
Fairford Town, fourth in the section, kept the leaders in their sights with a 2-0 victory over local rivals Wootton Bassett.
Former Bassett striker Lee Stoddart did his former side a favour by missing a good chance early on but on 28 minutes a good move involving Keith Walker, John Hathaway and Kevin Coles led to Courtney Chessell putting the home side into the lead.
Fairford continued on top and their strong defence snuffed out any response from a weakened Bassett side.
Soon after the start of the second half the home side lost Lee Stoddart who left the field with an injury but midway through the half they made sure of victory, Kevin Coles supplying a good cross for Chessell to score his second.
Fairford manager Mark Webb said: "We kept another clean sheet and collected three points, and set ourselves up for the Boxing Day clash with neighbours Cirencester Academy."
Yate Town took over the leadership of the Premier section after beating Didcot 6-2 and are the league's highest scorers netting 58 goals from 21 games.
In Division One Purton's title hopes took a knock when they were beaten at Shrivenham 1-0 in front of the home side's biggest crowd of the season.
Purton looked a shadow of the side that has seen them move to second spot in the table and Shrivenham took a deserved lead on 38 minutes, Neil Sutton nipping through a static Purton defence.
After the interval Purton pushed forward looking for an equaliser with Avenell, Richards and Igoe all missing good chances. However the home side defended their lead well and deserved their victory and left Purton boss Alan Clarke to ponder what went wrong with his side.
Don Rogers' Pewsey Vale side gained a 2-1 away win over bottom club Malmesbury Vics despite going a goal down in the first minute from a strike by Hillier. Burnett equalised for Pewsey on the half hour and Yates snatched the winner midway through the second half.
Division One leaders Hook Norton pulled four points clear of Purton after beating Witney Academy 5-0, third placed Winterbourne United drew 2-2 with Ross Town and fourth placed Middle Barton drew a goal apiece at Clanfield.
