VICTORIAN-STYLE hats of all shapes and sizes brought a splash of colour to a Women's Institute gathering.

Members of Pewsham WI organised a fancy hat competition and the group of creative women invited WI members from Hardenhuish, Monkton Park and Hungerdown to join in the fun.

The winner, Sybil Lovelock, and runner-up, Pam Freeman, were from Pewsham WI.

President Doreen Morse said she was delighted that everyone had made such an effort and even more delighted that two Pewsham members scooped the prizes.

"Everyone pulled out all the stops. We were also very lucky because the Mayor, Barbie Dawson, came and visited and judged the hat competition," said Mrs Morse.

The women enjoyed American-style snacks at the social gathering.

Pewsham WI meets every month at the Chippenham Fellowship Church.

"We wanted to make our December meeting a bit festive and the Victorian hat theme appeared to be the most popular," said Mrs Morse.
