PLANS to create a retirement village on a former Corsham naval base are on hold.
Beazer Homes' scheme to build the mini village at the former HMS Royal Arthur naval base was deferred when it went before North Wiltshire district councillors last week.
Cllr Doreen Darby said they could not make a decision without more information.
She said: "Something about this is not ringing true. What we are all sensing and feeling is that we need to look at this more."
Outline planning permission was granted in 1996 for a much larger retirement village which was never built.
Beazer Homes has come up with a smaller scheme of around 40 retirement homes.
Councillors were worried the homes could be sold not just to the elderly.
Cllr Ron MacGregor said: "These houses are not built for older residents they have an upstairs and a downstairs."
Talks will now be held between the council's planning officers and the developer about the mix of houses, car parking and community facilities.
