I am fed up with those who continually blame one political party or another for the financial and other problems, that we as a local community face.

Those who continually label themselves as belonging to a political party at a local level are asking for trouble.

Local issues and problems need to be tackled in a local, innovative and party bias free way.

If local politicians shackle themselves to national political party aims, themes and guidelines, then they must take the fallout.

The current financial and education problems are a prime example.

In my opinion we have to sit down and sort our priorities, for local issues at a local level.

We have to put together some sort of action plan to take into account funding shortfalls.

And if we want a certain level of facilities and funding, then we have to face the fact that somehow, somewhere we will have to pay for them.

I'm not happy at the proposed council tax rise but I am less happy at the prospect of our children, not having the resources or funds to have the best education possible.

We can all help in various simple yet effective ways.

For example, we can reduce the litter problem in and around Swindon by taking it home with us and disposing of it at home.

I have to say finally, that I do not intend to ever stand for public office, and I do not have any political ambition.

I know that there are those on the council who do their best. As a community we should offer our support and praise when it is due, but also criticise when mistakes have been made, and never try to single out any for blame. We can change things at a local and national level on polling day.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but decisions have to be taken at the time.

Instead of looking back, let's look forward and try to make our future better, not by squabbling, but working together.
