PLANS to turn former public toilets into a Christian meeting hall have been thrown out.
North Wiltshire district planners threw out the Down Trust's scheme to build a new hall on the former picnic site alongside the A350 at Kington Langley.
Trust spokesman Simon Turner said: "We knew it was down for refusal but, under the circumstances and after all that was said about us needing new premises, I thought they may have considered it. It looked as though they had their minds made up from the start."
The trust wanted to build the hall and 106 space car park to replace their premises in Goldney Avenue, Chippenham, which is no longer big enough.
Kington Langley parish councillors opposed the scheme claiming it would generate too much traffic and cause noise problems.
The scheme was backed by Chippenham district councillor Philip Allnatt.
He said: "How can we give a free run to the drive-in McDonald's, opening on Sunday on the edge of town, but no flexibility for a place of worship?"
