I WAS very saddened to see the word lunatic used by a Bradford resident when referring to people with mental health problems (upset over plans for mental home).
I had assumed such a term had not been used for many years and presents a completely wrong image of the people concerned.
I understand residents are upset because they were kept in the dark but is it surprising when the authorities concerned know they are going to get reactions like that?
According to your report purpose-built flats are to be provided for low level sufferers. They are therefore unlikely to have 'lots and lots of problems' as appears to be feared.
Also, at that level, they will provide no more or less problems than any other neighbour in the community. When will the mental health stigma die? It has not gone yet, that is certain.
