I was amazed by George Bright's comments about my letter (December 14) in last week's Wiltshire Times.

I was only stating that Trowbridge has not seriously gained anything to shout from the rooftops about in the past 10 years.

In truth, 10 years ago Ushers was still open and so was Tesco's old store. The Woolpack pub was still open and the town had a football ground.

We also had the TA centre and the open-air swimming pool where Tesco is now.

Okay, we have gained a few things, but at a price.

The schools in this area have always had a good reputation. They have improved mainly because of some excellent headteachers.

My point is the only entertainment we have here is in the shape of pubs and shops.

If my opinion was so off why doesn't anyone from my age group, or someone younger, ever write to the Wiltshire Times about my comments?

Why is it the only people who ever criticise my letters are from an older generation?

I believe everyone wants the best for their town.

I want the best for the town's people as well.

I don't just want a cinema but better all-round leisure factilities perhaps a bingo hall.

It should be what the people of the town want, not councillors or government.

Unfortunately, young people don't enter council life until they are old.

Young blood is required and everyone has a different approach to tackling a problem.

Rambler Close,
