IMAGINE the Christmas of your dreams fine food and wine, decorations galore and stacks of presents under the tree.

That is exactly what Cricklade pensioner Brian Boulton and his wife Mo, 59, woke up to on December 25.

Brian, 64, who used to run the Red Lion pub, won the best Christmas ever in an Evening Advertiser competition.

After accepting his prize of £3,000 worth of vouchers to spend in the Tesco on Ocotal Way, Brian said: "I'm ecstatic. That's the only word to describe how I feel."

Brian is well known in Swindon and Cricklade for his association with Concorde.

More than 32 years ago he gave Concorde the all clear to make its first British flight.

He was senior engineer in charge of the ground crew supporting flight 002's debut trip from Filton in Bristol to RAF Fairford on April 9, 1969.

He said the joy of winning the competition only just fell short of how he felt watching that historic first flight.

"It has got to be the best Christmas ever," said Brian, who spent part of his winnings on a video recorder and a personal computer.

"I might treat myself to a good bottle of scotch too," he said.

The competition to win Christmas was launched in the Advertiser on Monday, November 26.

Every day until Saturday, December 8, readers were given the chance to enter by phone by answering a qualifying question about Tesco.

As well as the main prize, each day the Evening Advertiser gave away a £50 voucher to a lucky winner.

When the competition closed, Brian's name was randomly picked from the 1,167 entries.

Tesco customer service manager John Turner and store manager Mario Roneaglia presented him with his prize.

Brian was told that he could spend the vouchers on food, garden and home products, gifts, toys and clothes in fact anything he wanted from the store.
