A FAMILY who ordered a Christmas hamper nearly missed out on the festivities when an internet shopping service failed to deliver.

Angela Morris, 48, from Chiseldon, spent £160 with the Sainsbury's To You service.

She ordered goods ranging from Christmas dinner ingredients to drinks, and was assured they would be delivered on Sunday, December 23.

But when the order arrived, more than £50-worth, including the turkey, was missing and she had been billed for beer that was not included. Angela, a secretary, shares her Ridgeway View home with partner John Keene, 49, and son Ben, 20, and was furious at having to go through the inconvenience of dashing out to buy £60 worth of provisions in Wroughton.

She said: " By 1.10pm, I was wondering if something was wrong, and I phoned their call centre. "The young man I spoke to said they were having problems.

"At about 1.40 the order came, and the man who delivered it said he was really sorry, but it was all messed up and had had to be delivered from London."

It was then that Angela realised how many items were missing, and that she had been charged about £7 for beer which wasn't delivered.

Sainsbury's spokeswoman, Nikki Martin, said: "Sainsbury's To You has successfully served thousands of customers this year.

"We are very sorry that Mrs Morris has encountered some problems with the service, and will be contacting her to offer a full refund for the shopping."

Sainsbury's has since offered Angela and John £150.
