THE completion of the improvements to Oxford Road is of course to the great delight of the residents of that area who for weeks have had to put up with the noise, dirt and general upheaval.

There are however, several points which need clarification.

First of all, we have a very wide cycle track cum walkway down one side of the road, but nothing on the other. If those planning the scheme had held a survey, they would, I am certain, have found that the majority of cyclists who rode on the pavements did so on the side opposite the new cycle track and no doubt they will continue to do so.

Secondly, it would appear that the lay-bys previously used for stopping places by the buses, have disappeared. Buses now have to stop in the road resulting a tailback of cars unable to get by. This causes more pollution for the unlucky residents living near the bus stops. Oxford Road is a main thoroughfare in and out of Swindon and I would have thought that the steady and continual flow of traffic was essential.

My third point, and I may be wrong on this, is that the bus stop previously opposite Whitestone Way seems to have disappeared. If this is the case, I wonder what the people who live in the Whitestone Way and Burden Close area have done to deserve such an omission.
