ANDY King's New Year wish is to secure Division Two survival as speedily as possible.

Town travel to Colchester United tomorrow hoping to extend their unbeaten run to three games under their new boss.

After Saturday's win over Bury, King is looking to start 2002 in the best possible fashion.

Town are currently 13th in the table, some four points adrift of the Layer Road outfit who are 12th.

A win for King's men would put them back in mid-table, while defeat would leave them firmly stuck in the lower reaches of the division.

He said: "The quicker we can survive and have the necessary points in the bag, the better for everyone.

"That's certainly a luxury I didn't have here last year."

King knows Colchester United are a tough proposition on their own patch but some of Town's best performances this year have been away from home.

He said: "Let's go there and be positive.

"I just want us to see us winning football matches.

"But I'm not putting my head on the block and saying we're going to do this or do that.

"Anything is possible in football."

King is enjoying life back at the County Ground, particularly on the back of an unbeaten two-match run since taking over from Roy Evans.

He knows some sections of the Town faithful remain unconvinced about his return but he is adamant they will have to get used to it.

He said: "I'm manager of this football club. So the quicker they learn there is no choice, the better it is for everyone."

King spent much of Saturday's match with Bury watching from the stand as he felt his presence on the bench could generate hostility which could in turn be transmitted to the players.

Pro-Razor Ruddock chants were still in evidence as were cries of 'sack the board' but King has reiterated there is no problem between the player-coach and himself.

The Town boss asked Ruddock to avoid aggravating the situation by not responding to the 'Razor' chants, to which Ruddock agreed.

King said: "I said thank you to Razor as he did step back and allowed the team to be the focus.

"But Razor is not a problem to me it is other people making that assumption."

King's immediate problem is an unwelcome new year injury list.

Giuliano Grazioli hobbled out of the Bury match and if he fails to recover in time, King will have to re-think his three-man attack.

Paul Edwards is unlikely to be included as he recovers from the hip injury he picked up against Notts County, while Razor Ruddock's injured knee will keep him on the sidelines.

Ticket prices for the clash with Colchester United tomorrow are as follows: Adults (£11-£13) and concessions (£5.50-£7.50).
