YOUTH leaders in Malmesbury have been the first to use state-of-the-art musical and computer equipment worth £8,700, which is now available to youth centres across north Wiltshire.
The equipment which includes a digital video camera, sound equipment, playback machines, guitars, drums, percussion equipment and a video camera, has been paid for with Lottery funding and proceeds from fundraising.
"This is totally different from any type of equipment we have had before," said Pam Brookes, the area manager for youth services in north and west Wiltshire.
"It's a really exciting opportunity for young people to use up-to-date technology to do creative activities and to gain confidence with this type of equipment and learn new skills."
The equipment will be available to hire by other centres from the beginning of April.
Mrs Brookes is encouraging leaders to take up the opportunity.
"We hope it is something the smaller village groups will be able to use and it brings an increased range of opportunities to young people and living in villages who are often isolated," she said.
The equipment can be used to make short films, cartoons, and create different types of music.
Staff at the Cartmell Centre in Malmesbury have been on a course to familiarize themselves with the equipment. All leaders will receive appropriate training.
