THE Wiltshire young farmers who are looking for girlfriends are to become poster pin-ups representing their club in the next phase of their campaign.

As well as finding some female companionship for the bachelors, the campaign aims to raise the organisation's profile.

"We want to show that that there is more to being a young farmer than wearing wellies," said county co-ordinator Sally Robinson.

The posters will be put up in colleges, clubs and wherever eligible young women are likely to be. The plan is to spark young women's interest in the organisation as well as the fanciable farmers themselves.

So far there has been a lot of interest in the campaign, inspired by the television show The Farmer Wants a Wife, but no clear favourite has emerged with the county's women divided over who is their crop idol.

"The letters have been pretty evenly spread among the lads," said Mrs Robinson.

The sought-after bachelors are getting used to their new-found fame after appearing in the Gazette three weeks ago. They have since been on television and shortly Internet surfers will be able to see their faces online.

The campaign will end in May when each farmer and the date chosen for him by a panel of judges will spend a romantic evening at a dinner and ball in Chippenham's Neeld Hall.
