WOOTTON Bassett slipped to defeat at Corsham after a spirited fightback from the home side in Saturday 16 March Southern Counties South encounter.
Bassett held the upper hand in the early stages but, questioning a number of refereeing decisions, they lost their way and ultimately missed the chance of going fourth Frome slipped up at home to Swindon College Old Boys.
Corsham it was who took the lead through a try from hooker Tim Russell.
Fly-half Neal James, though, cut the deficit for Bassett with a penalty.
And the visitors took the lead soon after when Lee Davis went over for a touchdown. James converted and continued to punish Corsham with the boot for a 16-8 half-time lead.
The home side bounced back in the second half, however, flanker Rob Snape-Johnson crossing over and Phil Kernan kicking the balance of points.
A tetchy contest boiled over at times, with Roy Hewett and Snape-Johnson and Bassett's Dave Floyd all spending time in the sin bin.
