THE combined Melksham and Devizes under 14's team secured victory in their final Wiltshire Cup game of the season at Wootton Bassett at the weekend.
Early nerves were settled when a five metre scrum was won by the visiting pack and captain David Finlay went in for the first try.
Outside centre Scott Simmons went over for the second score of the game, before Jon Mills' pass sent Ewan Lacey in for a try under the posts to move the visitors further in front. Lacey's effort was converted by Simmons to give the combined team a 17-point lead.
Bassett came out for the second half in determined fashion and scored two tries in quick succession.
But the tries only served to galvanise the visitors and Finlay found space for a weaving run through the home defence before increasing the lead.
From the kick off, makeshift flanker Will Barable provided a fine pass for number eight Chris Scruton, who ran fully 50 metres for the final try.
