Chippenham Town boss Tommy Saunders has insisted that his side still have much to do to guarantee an historic promotion to the Dr Martens Premier Division.

After drawing with rivals Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, and beating fellow promotion candidates Solihull 3-1 on Wednesday night, the Bluebirds have built a 10-point cushion in the second promotion spot behind likely champions Halesowen.

The win over Solihull prompted choruses of 'Going up, Going up, Going up' from the Hardenhuish Park faithful, but Saunders is adamant that the fight for second place is far from over.

He said: "I thought the fans' singing was a little bit arrogant to be quite truthful. I know that's something I get accused of, but we're nowhere near up yet."

Saunders believes that victory over Solihull ends any realistic chance of the Midlanders gaining promotion, but the Town manager still expects a strong challenge from Frank Gregan and his big-budget Weston outfit.

"I looked at the table before the game, and thought if we beat Solihull that effectively kills them off," said Saunders.

"Although we've got a 10-point cushion over Weston, I still expect them to win most of their remaining nine games, and if they win their games in hand, the gap's down to four points.

"We have to keep our feet on the ground. Beating Solihull was a great result, but it is only three points and it will mean nothing if we don't win at Cirencester tomorrow."

"We are doing really well, we've got seven games left, and if we win six of them then we're up.

"It is not over until the fat bloke sings and I haven't sung yet."
