I WAS pleasantly surprised to receive support from several correspondents for my suggestion of more churches in Trowbridge.

I feel I must respond, however, to those who say the currently operating places of worship are "rarely full".

I would recommend to them my own church, St John the Baptist, Wingfield Road, which seats 588 and has a near-capacity congregation on Sunday mornings. The Sunday morning choir on occasion can number over 30 people, and a different set of 12-15 people form a youth choir on Sunday evenings. Many people lament the apparent demise of Christianity in the western world. If you want evidence to the contrary, come to St John's.
