THE campaign to save the magistrates court in Trowbridge is gaining strength.

West Wiltshire MP, Andrew Murrison, has raised the issue in Parliament and many signatures have already been collected in a bid to keep the court open.

Trowbridge mayor Jeff Osborn said at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday, March 26, "Dr Murrison thinks that the petition will have some mileage in Parliament and we have already collected quite a few signatures."

The petitions have been distributed to county libraries and tourist information centres and a copy is available at the Wiltshire Times office in Duke Street, Trowbridge.

Dr Murrison said that the closure of the court would disadvantage the less well off and those living in rural areas as they would have to travel to Chippenham.

He said Wiltshire deserves special consideration because of the poor public transport links between towns and villages.
