THE new CCTV system in Trowbridge town centre should be up and running by April 2, a week before its scheduled completion date.
It is hoped that the new system will lead to a fall in the levels of crime in the town, although police and councillors have warned that there could be a temporary rise as more crimes are detected.
At a meeting of Trowbridge Town Council on Tuesday, police Inspector Neil Bagnall said: "The experience in Warminster shows that an increase in crime can be expected at first but there should be a fall in the long term."
Owners of Trowbridge businesses were shown around the control room in The Shires Shopping Centre on March 12.
Anyone who has privacy concerns regarding the system can contact Trowbridge Town Council on (01225) 765072.
