I MAY not be too bright but I always thought a museum was a room, or rooms, that were full of inanimate objects that just needed a dusting down every day, and a chap in a peaked cap in attendance to make sure nothing got stolen.

When I read that Swindon Council has to make up a shortfall of £500,000 for the upkeep of Steam, as visitors figures are half what they should be, I asked myself "How much does it cost to run this place?" If it employed an army of people wielding feather dusters, they must still be on a good wage.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to put an appropriately coloured brown sign on the motorway pointing to Steam's new exhibit It's called The Gravy Train!
