A man who gave police a false name after being arrested for the theft of £51 worth of clothes from C&A has been given a two-year conditional discharge.
Swindon Crown Court heard Marc Aldridge had been cautioned for the offence after police checked his alias and thought he was of good character.
But forensic evidence linked the theft to Aldridge, 20, of Culvery Court, Harding Street, who had previous convictions, and he admitted perverting the course of justice.
He was ordered to pay £150 prosecution costs in the next two months.
