Passengers travelling from Swindon faced weekend delays on the trains while engineers worked to remove a landslip near Bath.
First Great Western commuters travelling to Bristol or London Paddington were warned to be prepared for long delays following the slippage that has blocked the main line since Thursday night.
The track between Bristol and Bath was closed at midnight on Saturday and was not expected to reopen until this morning. To add to the problems, weekend engineering work was carried out on the line between Swindon and Didcot.
