A TOWN victory over Blackpool on Saturday could spark a double celebration at the County Ground.
Many supporters would love to see Steve McMahon put in his place but the three points may finally clinch Second Division survival.
A Town win combined with a Bury defeat would leave the Shakers some 13 points adrift with only four games left to play.
Town would have the luxury of a five match run-in with no pressure on their shoulders.
A free weekend due to Cambridge United's participation in the LDV Vans Trophy final meant there was always the danger of the sides below Town making up ground.
However, result after result went in Town's favour.
Manager Andy King watched Stoke City defeat Chesterfield and it was good news elsewhere.
Not one of the teams below Town managed a win. Bury's 1-1 draw with Port Vale saw the Shakers reduce the gap on Town to 10 points but time and matches are running out for Andy Preece's side.
Andy King said: "Promises to certain players will be kept in terms of team selection once we are absolutely safe.
"I am hoping a win over Blackpool will give me that opportunity."
Town's Under 19s went down to a 2-1 defeat at Exeter City on Saturday.
