DISABLED pupils at Swindon schools are to have easier access to classes thanks to a £224,909 Government cash injection.
One school, Holy Family Primary in Park North, is to receive £45,900.
The money is part of £70 million awarded nationwide to improve facilities and access in mainstream schools for pupils with disabilities. Possible options include:
Ramps, lifts and easy-to-open doors for pupils with mobility difficulties.
Enhanced paint schemes and adjustable lighting for those who have difficulty with their vision.
Acoustic loops and the use of special tiles in classrooms for pupils with impaired hearing.
Installing specially-designed computer equipment.
Government Schools Minister Catherine Ashton said: "The Government is firmly committed to ensuring that all children reach their full potential, and the seven-fold increase in funding is clear evidence of this.
"The money will create further opportunities for pupils with disabilities, and remove barriers to achievement across the country.
"We recognise that, despite this huge increase in funding, there is still some way to go, and that is why we are making £100 million available to local education authorities for 2003/04."
