HELP is at hand in Swindon for couples in need of counselling, even though charity Relate is reducing its level of service.
Following streamlining by Wiltshire Relate, due to financial constraints, the service in Swindon will now be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 9pm at its premises in Eastcott Hill, Old Town.
Relate provides a valued counselling service to adults experiencing difficulties in their relationships.
Chairman Bob Worlidge said: "At present we offer a service to all those who contact us and turn no-one away, and for those who cannot afford to pay we operate a bursary scheme. It is estimated that next year we will have to raise £60,000 to cover the bursary scheme; this year only £7,600 has been contributed so we have a real challenge on our hands."
Anyone wanting to benefit from Relate's support should contact (01225) 765310 or fax (01225) 775870.
Following Relate's restructure other agencies have come forward to say they are providing counselling services.
Marriage Care has been operating in Swindon for a number of years, one of 64 throughout the UK offering help to couples or individuals who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship.
Marriage Care counsellors are trained professionals, having attained a university accredited certificate in counselling.
Operating from a centre in Marlowe Avenue, Park North, they can often help couples prevent a mini crisis becoming a major one.
"The counselling process is impartial and non-judgemental and no fee is charged, though clients are encouraged to make a donation of what they can afford," said centre manager Graham Flynn.
