WHEN a road large enough for traffic was built through the Lawns, did the public really believe that it was only intended solely for cyclists and pedestrians?
Come on, wake up people! Penhill started exactly in this way. Now look at it!
As for the Mechanics' Institute controversy, I would imagine by now that all the feasibility studies alone could have paid for a restoration project.
As Swindon has obviously not got anything to deserve city status (litter strewn streets, don't count do they?) Why not give up on the Mechanics' Institute and demolish this extremely unsafe building, much in the same way that most other famous landmarks have been allowed to disappear over the years?
At the end of the day the council will do whatever they want, despite our protests.
