There was a riot in Wroughton today but those involved were safe from arrest.
They were all volunteers, helping the emergency services train in dealing with public disorder.
Wiltshire Police were joined by colleagues from Devon and Cornwall, Dorset, Avon and Somerset and Gloucestershire.
In all, 150 officers were taking part. They were joined by scores of volunteers, who were acting out a number of scenarios including playing the role of a rioting mob.
And the media were also being invited to the day to give police commanders experience in dealing with the press during incidents.
The all-day exercise was being held at the site of the former Princess Alexandra RAF hospital in Wroughton.
