ALTHOUGH there were a few exceptions, the Kennet and Avon Canal at Little Bedwyn fished well for the fourth round of the North Wessex Winter League.

Cotswold anglers got their methods spot on, not only taking first and second team spots on the day, but also three of the top five individuals.

With one match to fish, it's looking as though Cotswold A or B teams are likely to win the coveted trophy, although Turners Tackle No 1 and Isis A are pushing hard.

Top angler on the day was Dave Pearce (Cotswold B). He was pegged in the Iron Bridge section and took a nice bag of 10-5-0 of mainly skimmers on pole and maggot.

Chris Telling, fishing under the Elgin banner, stopped the Cotswold domination of the match by taking a 9-11-0 mixed bag from a generally poor C section in and around the wires. Weights were all very close with Tony Randall (Cotswold A) snatching third spot with a good weight of 9-7-8 from the best section on the day, D at Little Bedwyn.

The next two anglers in the individuals were also in D section, with fourth angler Darren Reynolds (Talisman A) 8-12-8, and fifth Dick Young (Cotswold B) 8-10-0.

The Bourton-on-the-Water carp lake fished well for the regular Wednesday Veterans match.

Mick Robbins took a fine 68lb bag using pellet and maggot to win ahead of Len Simpson, who took 54lb on maggot. Derek Hillier was pushed into third with his 53-8-0.

Sections: Graham Rose 47-8-0 and Bomber Sainsbury 33lb.

The Plaums Pit Last Cast Trophy, on their lake, saw a win for Steve Trimby with 10-2-0 of skimmers. He was followed closely by Pete Townsend who also took skimmers for 9-6-0, and Michael Lichota (4-4-0). The club's Aggregate was won by Chris French, followed by Michael Lichota and Les Arblaster.

JUST six carp were required to win the Ivy House Lake's AC Club match on Sunday. These six carp, however, did weigh a fine 33-1-0 and the captor, Simon Jones, used a pole with pellet and sweetcorn as bait on peg 14.

Second was Stuart Dobson, who took 26lb of roach, bream and carp on pole and pellet from peg three. Third was Jo Warner (peg 12) with 24-1-0, taken on a waggler, fished close in. Fourth was Lou Sloane (peg 13) with 21-7-0 of carp and bream on the pole.
