A WOMAN splashed by a falling can of paint in a DIY store is demanding the full price of her ruined jeans and shoes.

Angela Oborne says B&Q owes her £75 for designer jeans bought in the USA and £45 for shoes bought in Next.

She claims the firm has offered only 70 per cent of the cost, but B&Q claims it is willing to pay the full cost of the jeans and 70 per cent of the cost of the shoes.

The firm also denies responsibility for the accident, in which another customer dropped a can of primer.

Mrs Oborne, 38, and husband Mark, 37, of Borage Close in Haydon Wick, Swindon, went to B&Q in Fleming Way to look at wallpaper.

Mrs Oborne said: "We were stood in an aisle of paint when we heard something drop.

"I turned round and saw that a man had dropped a can of primer it had gone on my shoes and my trousers.

"The chap walked off. I thought he was going to get somebody to help clean up the mess, but he just walked off."

Mrs Oborne was left with indelible blobs of primer on her trousers and spatters of it on her shoes.

Mr Oborne, who does not work as he is recovering from cancer, added: "The manager said B&Q were not liable for any of it.

"He wanted to give us 70 per cent of what the shoes cost and 70 per cent of the price of the jeans."

B&Q spokesman Jean Kaur said: "As far as I am aware, we offered to pay all of the cost of the jeans and 70 per cent of the cost of the shoes."

Ms Kaur explained that the shoes had been worn for some time before the accident, and that B&Q had a policy of not replacing old items with new ones in such circumstances.

She added: "We are very sorry for what has happened, but it was due to another customer spilling paint that we have come to this situation. And we have agreed to arrange some form of compensation to the customer."
