MR HUDSON insists that the Liberal Democrats did propose a budget this year (Evening Advertiser, March 11). However, the Liberal Democrats' approach to the budget process suggests they do not take local decision-making seriously.

The Conservatives issued proposals for consultation on December 19, more than two months before the budget meeting.

The Liberal Democrats issued their proposals, in a press release, just a few days before the crucial meeting. This allowed little time for the public and their elected representatives, to digest the proposals and their implications.

The Liberal Democrats had two months to show that they were serious about local decision making. They blew it.

Their leader turned down a position of responsibility in the cabinet, formed after Labour's mass resignation.

It seems the Liberal Democrats do not take seriously, the responsibility of local decision making.
