Lydia Harding's memorial tree at Sheldon School is due to be replaced after an accident which left the plane sapling snapped in two.
The tree was recently dedicated to Lydia, from Chippenham who was just 16 when she died of cancer last year.
Her parents Sue and Howard Harding, of Kingsley Road, received a letter from Sheldon headteacher Tony Cleaver apologising for the incident, when a pupil accidentally ran into the tree and broke it. The boy's family has offered to buy a replacement, and the school will protect it with a mesh cage.
