PUPILS have been making life a bit brighter at their Chippenham school. They have been creating a stunning piece of art for the playground at Redland School.

More than 120 pupils have been involved in the two-week project and they have been helped by an artist in residence.

Joanna Dewfall, an artist from Salisbury, has worked with the pupils right from the early design stages through to creating the colourful, 21-metre long mosaic along the playground wall.

The pupils chose animals around the world as the theme for the art work and parents and visitors to the school will able to enjoy the brighter environment in its full glory when the pupils return after the Easter break on April 8.

The Redland mosaic follows hard on the heals of a project at Kings Lodge Chippenham school which used the talents of parent and artist Sally Ann Long to brighten up its cloakrooms and toilets.

The school received a £2,000 grant from the Borough Lands Charity to develop art.

It conducted a survey to find out which areas of the school the pupils most wanted brightened up and the cloakrooms came out tops.
