A mother was left with a bruise the size of a hand on her left arm after another mother attacked her in the street.

Hanna Burchell, 32, of Orchard Close, Corsham, pleaded guilty to assaulting Angela Butterworth, who lives four doors away, on March 12, when she appeared before magistrates in Chippenham on Monday.

Burchell was given an 18-month conditional discharge, fined £75 compensation and ordered to pay £55 costs.

Michelle Hewitt, prosecuting, said the two parents came to blows after their 11-year-old daughters fell out at school, which he did not name.

The attack happened when Mrs Butterworth was in the street at 3.15pm talking to friend Betty Read.

She said: "As the defendant walked past she grabbed Mrs Butterworth from behind on her right shoulder, swung her round and punched her to the ground. She was kicking her and punching her, on her head, body and arms.

"Mrs Butterworth asked what was going on, and the defendant replied: 'Keep your family away from mine.'"

Burchell told police there had been a dispute between the two families for 18 months.

Stephen Clifford, defending, said Burchell regretted what had happened.

"She didn't plan this attack. She saw the injured party and saw red," he said.

"She hopes that the disagreement can now be resolved quickly."
