MARK Bullows, manager of the Castle Inn in Castle Combe, is enlightening his regulars.
He has been campaigning for months for street lighting near the pub, but without success.
Now he has taken the matter into his own hands and is issuing his customers with torches so they can see themselves safely home.
He said: "We had no response from the council so we decided to do something to help our customers. You cannot see your hand in front of your face at night, and people who park on the side of the road and walk to the pub take their life in their hands."
Mr Bullows wrote to North Wiltshire District Council about the lighting but received no response.
So he decided to buy 25 torches for customers. Five have already been given out.
He said: "So far we have had a very good response. Customers have been surprised and a few look at me strangely when I offer them a torch, but our scheme creates easier and safer access for all.
"The lack of lighting appeared to be having a detrimental affect on trade," Mr Bullows said.
"With no lights it can put people off, perhaps more so after a few pints of beer."
